As I have prepared myself for surgery this morning, I am thankful for something we call
“truth.” Somewhere along the line, we have lost faith in truth. Too often we don’t think there is a truth to be known. Or we tell ourselves that truth is whatever the individual tells himself or herself. But today of all days for me, is a day I am personally thankful I know the truth about my condition.
This realization has reminded me of a greater truth. Jesus said, “I am the truth, and the truth will set you free.” When I faced the truth about my coronary disease, it allowed me to seek definitive treatment. Just think if this truth were not available to me. The surgeon would have had a difficult time recommending surgery because he would not have known the truth about my condition. And I would then not know where to turn. But there is truth. And in this fact, the fact that there is truth, I have discovered the Truth to transform my life.
Ultimately, the Truth is Jesus. The Truth is a Person. The truth about life is that we can experience God’s love, God compassion, & God’s personality as we grasp the Truth. Last night several people from the church came to our house to stand outside, sing some songs, recite some Scripture, & pray for me & my family. They held candles in their hands representing the Light of the world. When I stepped outside to join them, I realized the Truth was with me! I am thankful the Truth has set me free from a spirit of discontent & uncertainty. I am in love with the Truth. If you have doubts today about your life, your decisions, the direction you are going, seek the Truth. And you will be set free!
